BLM Seeks Input on Proposed Direct Land Sale to Socorro County for Detention Pond
SOCORRO, N.M. — The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment for the direct sale of public lands to Socorro County for construction of a flood detention pond to protect the town of San Antonio from flooding.
The proposed direct sale would include 10 public acres and reversionary interest for an additional adjacent 10 acres previously transferred to the county through a Recreation and Public Purposes Act patent. The sale of existing reversionary interest means the lands will no longer revert back to the BLM if not used for the intended purpose of the patent. The potential sale would not be offered until at least 60 days from today after the BLM has considered comments received and signed a decision.
A notice of realty action and intent published in today’s Federal Register to begin a 45-day comment period. Additional information and planning documents are available at the BLM National NEPA Register, where comments may be submitted through the “Participate Now” option (preferred). Written comments may also be delivered to BLM Socorro Field Office, ATTN: Socorro Field Office Manager, 901 South Hwy 85, Socorro, NM 87801. The comment period will close Sept. 8, 2026.
