CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking public comment for the proposed Lazy 5 transmission line project in the northern part of the Reno-Sparks metropolitan area in Washoe County. This includes seeking information and identifying historic properties in or near the project area.

If approved, Sierra Pacific Power Company, a subsidiary of NV Energy, could construct a 13-mile 120 kilovolt overhead line on private, county, and public lands; the proposed Lazy 5 substation in Spanish Spring on 17 acres of NV Energy property; the proposed Lemmon Valley substation on five public acres; and the removal of about two miles of existing 120 kilovolt transmission line between the existing Sullivan switching station and Spanish Springs substation.

The project is intended to prevent outage risks in the Spanish Springs area based on NV Energy projections of demand growth of four percent annually.

Additional information, including a map of the proposed project areas and virtual public meeting on July 2 from 5-7 p.m. PST, is available at https://eplanning.blm.gov/eplanning-ui/project/2038946/510 where comments may be submitted through the ‘Participate Now’ option. Comments may also be delivered to 5665 Morgan Mill Road, Carson City, NV 89701 or faxed to 775-885-6147. The comment period will close July 18, 2025.
