BLM Proposes Habitat Restoration Work Near Desert Lake and the Mounds Area

The BLM Price Field Office is proposing a habitat restoration project that would install several wooden buck‑and‑rail fence enclosures and up to 100 small water‑control structures to help reduce erosion and improve ecological conditions. The work would take place in two areas: south of Desert Lake within the Cleveland Winter allotment, and in the Mounds allotment. Construction and other ground‑disturbing activities would occur between September 1 and April 15 over multiple years from 2026 to 2036, depending on available funding and scheduling. The project is designed to protect vulnerable soils, support vegetation recovery, and enhance long‑term habitat resilience.

BLM Price Field Office Proposes Updates to Herbicide Treatment Practices

The BLM Price Field Office is proposing updates to its herbicide treatment permits to include ten active ingredients approved through recent national Environmental Impact Statements. The BLM’s 2024 Record of Decision for Programmatic Approval Addressing Vegetation Treatments Using Herbicides added seven active ingredients—aminocyclopyrachlor, clethodim, fluazifop‑P‑butyl, flumioxazin, imazamox, indaziflam, and oryzalin—to the agency’s approved list. Three additional ingredients—aminopyralid, fluroxypyr, and rimsulfuron—were previously approved under the BLM’s 2016 vegetation treatment EIS.

Over the next five years, the PFO plans to incorporate all ten ingredients into its existing treatment practices to better manage invasive species and support native vegetation recovery.
