BLM plans prescribed burn in Washoe County
CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management, Carson City District, in conjunction with Desert Research Institute, is planning to implement a prescribed burn in the vicinity of Red Rock Road and Bird Springs Road, south of Rancho Haven in Washoe County.
“The goal of this burn is to collect scientific data regarding heat and smoke release, as well as fire effects on vegetation, said Jonathan Palma, Fire Management Officer.
The burn will consist of several small (12' x 12') burn plots totaling 0.03 acres, to be burned over several days. Some smoke may be visible, but due to the small size of the burn plots, smoke volume should be minimal and dissipate quickly.
BLM wildland fire resources will be on scene during burning. The burn will take place over 5-6 days during periods of stable weather, between the months of November and February.
