BLM opens public comment for proposed direct sale of land used for golf course in Emery County
FERRON, Utah — The Bureau of Land Management Price Field Office is seeking public input for a proposed direct land sale of 157 acres to Ferron City, which has been leasing the land from the public since 1985 for the city’s Millsite Golf Course. The land was leased under the Recreation and Public Purposes Act.
Proceeds from the sale would be deposited into the Emery County, Utah, Land Acquisition Account, according to section 1253 of Public Law 116-9, the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act. The comment period opens May 1 2026, and closes June 14, 2026.
Under the RPPA, the city leased the land for a 9-hole golf course in 1985 and amended the lease in 2009 for an additional 9-hole expansion. The golf course has since been developed in accordance with the approved Plan of Development and currently operates as an 18-hole municipal course.
Ferron City has requested to purchase the land encumbered by the golf course lease with no reversionary clause. A reversionary clause returns title to the United States if the purchaser transfers title or control to another or if the lands have been devoted to a use other than that for which the lands were conveyed.
When complete, funds from the direct sale may used by the agency to benefit the public lands, recreation area, and cultural resources in Emery County. “The BLM is committed to responsible management of public lands,” said Green River District Manager Elijah Waters. “By making the land sale process more accessible and transparent, we are ensuring that interested public have an opportunity to provide important and useful input.”
