BLM issues final analysis for proposed San Rafael Swell management updates
PRICE, Utah – The Bureau of Land Management issued the final environmental assessment and proposed resource management plan amendment for the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area and surrounding region of central Utah.
Directed by the John D. Dingell. Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act in 2019, the proposed plan fulfills congressional direction by establishing a framework for the region’s future and balancing historical recreation with modern usage levels.
“This proposal provides a balanced approach that aims to clarify management direction for this iconic landscape,” said BLM Green River District Manager Elijah Waters. “By reducing overlapping designations and establishing a more consistent, sustainable framework, the BLM can better manage recreation and other vital uses within the San Rafael Swell Recreation Area for years to come.”
Additional information is available at the BLM National NEPA Register. A 30-day public review and protest period starts today and closes June 15, 2026.
