BLM issues emergency area closure due to Vees Fire in Washakie County

WORLAND, Wyo. — The Bureau of Land Management Worland Field Office has issued an emergency closure of public lands in Washakie County affected by the Vees Fire to ensure public and firefighter safety during active suppression efforts. 

Effective immediately, all BLM-managed roads, trails and lands within the designated area are closed to unauthorized entry. The closure will remain in effect until conditions allow for safe public access and the order is formally rescinded. 

The closure area includes the following lands (Wyoming 6th Principal Meridian): 

  • Township 46 North, Range 87 West – Southern half 

  • Township 45 North, Range 87 West – All sections 

  • Township 44 North, Range 87 West – Northern half 

The Washakie County Sheriff’s Office has also closed a portion of County Road 58 between Township 46N, Range 87W, Section 22 (southeast quarter of the southwest quarter) and Township 45N, Range 87W, Section 22 (southwest quarter of the southwest quarter). 

Members of the public are prohibited from entering the closure area, including any roads or trails, unless escorted by an authorized BLM official.
