The Bureau of Land Management, Sierra Front Field Office, has issued a decision record for a categorical exclusion authorizing the Nevada Department of Agriculture to construct a 14‑mile wildlife‑safe fence along portions of the Virginia Range in Carson City, Storey, and Washoe counties.

The project is designed to enhance public safety and animal welfare by reducing the risk of wild horses entering residential communities and roadways, where collisions and conflicts have increased in recent years. Extensive biological, cultural, and environmental surveys were completed, confirming the project can be implemented without significant impacts to natural resources, cultural sites, or wildlife. The Decision Record is available at: Virginia Range Fence
