The Bureau of Land Management, Sierra Front Field Office, has issued a Decision Record authorizing Scorpio Energy Center LLC to conduct geotechnical site investigations on BLM-managed lands near Wabuska, Lyon County, Nevada. The approved work consists of drilling three geotechnical borings, up to five cone penetration tests, three microtremor surveys, and installing up to two groundwater wells about 1,100 feet deep, all on existing unpaved roads with a temporary disturbance of 1.72 acres.
BLM-required protections include resource clearances, bird timing restrictions, dust and erosion control, invasive species prevention, waste management, and site reclamation. Environmental review found the activity qualifies as a categorical exclusion. Geotechnical investigations are necessary to obtain subsurface and hydrologic information for the future Scorpio Energy Center project. With design features in place, the temporary disturbance will not result in significant will not cause significant impacts. The Decision Record is available at: Scorpio Geotech Investigation
