The Bureau of Land Management Sierra Front Field Office has issued a Decision Record for a categorical exclusion authorizing the expansion of the Pinyon Trail System in Douglas County, Nevada. The project, proposed by the Carson Valley Trails Association will add approximately three miles of new non‑motorized trail segments to the existing 5.2‑mile Pinyon Trail, located seven miles east of Gardnerville on BLM‑managed public lands.

The expanded trail system will continue to serve hikers, equestrians, mountain bikers, and dogs, and will also support non‑motorized Special Recreation Permit activities. All construction will be performed using hand tools only, with no mechanized equipment, and will follow U.S. Forest Service standard trail specifications. This project meets NEPA requirements under an adopted categorical exclusion for trail construction. Environmental review found no significant impacts to wildlife, vegetation, cultural resources, or other sensitive areas. Botanical and nesting bird surveys will be completed prior to ground disturbance. The Decision Record is available at Project Home Page
