BLM issues Decision for Pine Nut Energy Center Geotechnical Investigation
The Bureau of Land Management has issued a Decision Record authorizing Pine Nut Energy Center LLC to conduct geotechnical site investigations on BLM-managed lands near Wabuska, Lyon County, Nevada.
The approved work includes subsurface borings, cone penetrometer tests, small test pits, electrical-resistivity and other geophysical surveys, and pile-load tests to assess soil conditions and foundation feasibility. Activities will use existing roads or designated corridors, avoid sensitive biological and cultural resources, and temporarily disturb approximately 7.04 acres. No construction or operation of the energy storage facility is authorized; all disturbed areas will be reclaimed after fieldwork.
BLM-required protections include resource clearances, bird timing restrictions, dust and erosion controls, invasive-species prevention, waste management, and site reclamation. Environmental reviews determined that the work qualifies for a categorical exclusion. These investigations will provide subsurface and hydrologic information for the proposed Pine Nut Energy Center project.
