BLM Ely District offers firewood for sale
ELY, Nev. — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is offering mixed pinyon-juniper firewood to the public for $85 per cord. Firewood permits will be available for purchase in person from 8 A.M. and 4 P.M. Monday, Sept. 28, at the BLM Ely District Office, 702 North Industrial Way in Ely.
“The firewood was harvested as part of a landscape-scale hazardous fuels reduction project within the wildland-urban interface to protect people, landscapes and communities,” said Kellie Dobrescu, U.S. Wildland Fire Service Unit 9 forester. “The project restores vegetative health and improves wildlife habitat while reducing catastrophic wildfire risk on public lands.”
Firewood is cut into rounds approximately 12 to 16 inches long and 3 to 25 inches in diameter. The recently cut wood is stacked in one- to two-cord piles along two-track roads. Exact pickup locations will be provided when permits are purchased.
Purchasers may purchase a maximum of five cords and are responsible for loading and removing the firewood by hand. Firewood removal will be allowed Oct. 4-10, from noon to 6 p.m. daily.
When purchasing a permit, buyers must select a pickup date and provide vehicle information, including the vehicle color and make and the length and type of trailer, if applicable.
