ENNIS, Mont. –The Bureau of Land Management will conduct essential maintenance on the floating dock at the Kobayashi Beach Recreation Area starting on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025. To ensure public safety during this work, the boat launch, floating dock, and adjacent parking area will be closed to the public during daylight hours while repairs are underway.

The remainder of the Kobayashi Beach Recreation Area will remain open for the public use during the repair operations.

The BLM will remove the floating dock for the season in preparation for winter conditions after the repairs are complete.

Earlier this season, the floating dock and anchoring system sustained significant damage during high winds. The BLM installed a temporary anchoring system to maintain access to the dock through the summer. Crews will install improved anchors designed to increase holding capacity and provide long-term durability better suited to the inclement weather conditions on Ennis Lake.

Additional boat launch access is available at Clute’s Landing, located 5.5 miles from Kobayashi Beach on Ennis Lake. Clute’s Landing is intended for smaller motorized vessels and may not be suitable for all watercraft.

This project is made possible with direct support from NorthWestern Energy and the Missouri-Madison River Fund, helping to improve visitor safety, accessibility, and long-term cost efficiency.
