Event Description

The Bureau of Land Management will host a wild horse adoption for trained horses March 27-28 in Grand Junction, Colorado. 

The horses and burros will be available for adoption to individuals who are eligible and can provide good homes. If anyone would like to place a proxy bid, they must have an application approved by the BLM no later than March 23 and a signed Private Care and Maintenance Agreement.

The horses have been trained in haltering, leading, pickup of hooves, and trailer loading. Some will also have been started under saddle. Call (970) 244-3016 or (719) 269-8549 for more information about this event.

To qualify to adopt a wild horse:  

Applicants must be at least 18 years old with no record of animal abuse. 

Homes must have a minimum of 400 square feet of corral space per animal, with access to food, water, and shelter.

Corral fence must meet height requirements: 

Adult horses - 6 feet  

Yearlings - 5 feet 

Trailers must be stock type, covered, with swing gates and sturdy walls/floors.
