BLM Changes Links to National Public Land Survey System GIS Dataset
The Bureau of Land Management is updating the public-facing web link for the National Public Land Survey System (PLSS) GIS service as part of our transition to a modernized cloud environment on October 14th and throughout the remainder of the week. As a result, the web links will be changed, as outlined below.
What’s Changing
New PLSS GIS Service URL: https://gis.blm.gov/natlplss/rest/services/Cadastral/BLM_Natl_PLSS_CadNSDI/MapServer
Old PLSS GIS Service URL: https://gis.blm.gov/arcgis/rest/services/Cadastral/BLM_Natl_PLSS_CadNSDI/MapServer
Timelines
The Old PLSS GIS Service URL will be active until February 1st, 2027. During this time, please transition any applications or maps to point to the New PLSS GIS Service URL.
Recommended Action
Update all references to the PLSS service to use the new URL as soon as possible.
Applications that rely on the old URL will continue to function temporarily but should transition promptly.
Why This Change Is Happening
The BLM is migrating all public GIS services to the Azure-based REST end to improve performance, stability, and long-term sustainability. The PLSS service, one of our most highly used services, is receiving a dedicated endpoint to ensure consistent reliability.
