Event Description
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – To celebrate National Public Lands Day, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) invites the public to join a volunteer event on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on BLM’s Campbell Tract. Volunteers should meet at the Campbell Creek Science Center, located at 5600 Science Center Drive, Anchorage, AK 99507.
The theme for this year’s event is 'Our Home Outdoors,' a reminder that public lands are not just physical spaces—they are where we come together, feel rooted, and develop a sense of place. The celebration’s focus will be on volunteer projects, including trail maintenance and putting native plant gardens to bed for the winter, that will benefit Campbell Tract and the community members that recreate on these public lands.
“National Public Lands Day is a great opportunity to come together as a community to help care for Campbell Tract, a place woven into many people’s lives,” said Stolf Short, Outdoor Recreation Planner. “We're excited to connect around a shared passion for public lands to make a difference together, benefitting the land and our community.”
This event is free to the public, but registration is required. Register online to ensure an accurate headcount for lunch and equipment that will be provided by the BLM. Volunteers should dress for the weather and meet at the Campbell Creek Science Center.
The BLM’s Campbell Tract is a 730-acre Special Recreation Management Area located in the heart of Alaska’s largest urban area that provides year-round outdoor recreation opportunities at the most visited BLM recreation site in Alaska. Campbell Tract’s 24-mile trail system winds through the woods, providing recreation opportunities on unpaved trails that link to the adjacent Far North Bicentennial Park trail network. Campbell Tract also offers wildlife viewing opportunities to visitors, who have the chance to encounter moose, lynx, fox, black and brown bears, coyotes, migratory birds, and three species of Pacific Salmon while visiting these public lands. To learn more about Campbell Tract and plan a future visit, visit the BLM Campbell Tract website.
The BLM manages about 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
