BLM Celebrates Freedom 250 with Trail System Grand Opening in Moab
Join the Bureau of Land Management, Grand County UT, and San Juan County UT for the grand opening of the Mud Springs Trail System, as part of the Freedom 250 celebration! A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. on September 11, debuting Phase 1 of this new purpose-built trail network. The event also kicks off race weekend for the Utah High School Cycling League (NICA).
The trail system is optimized for mountain bikers, class-1 e-bikes, and adaptive cycles, with most trails machine-built and featuring views across Spanish Valley. The trails are designed to serve all skill levels, from cross-country-style riding to more advanced, technical terrain.
In addition to the trails, the project includes a parking lot, camping areas, and a new restroom facility. A new trailhead is under construction featuring bathrooms, information for both non-motorized and motorized users, and dedicated trailer parking
Grand County is developing the trail system in partnership with San Juan County and the Bureau of Land Management. To protect local deer and elk populations, the trail system closes seasonally from mid-November through mid-April.
The public is invited to attend. Parking will be available at the new trailhead lot; please plan for high visitor volume. The trailhead is located at 38°25'44.29"N 109°25'17.98"W
