Event Description

CRAIG, Colo- The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Colorado State Forest Service are utilizing Good Neighbor Authority to begin forest health and fuel reduction treatments in the Emerald Mountain Special Recreation Management Area near Steamboat Springs, Colorado. As part of this project, the Beall Trail will be temporarily closed beginning July 8, 2025, for public and worker safety. Work will be completed using hand tools along the trail and in the surrounding areas.

Planned treatments aim to restore the health of the surrounding mixed conifer and aspen stands. This work reduces hazardous fuels and hazard trees, reducing trail maintenance, improving public safety, improving forest and range land health, and reducing the likelihood of a catastrophic wildfire.

The Good Neighbor Authority allows the BLM to enter into agreements with states, counties, and federally recognized Indian tribes to complete critical work to keep forests healthy. BLM is partnering with the Colorado State Forest Service under this authority to reduce hazardous fuels that could impact Steamboat Springs and neighboring lands.

Work is anticipated to last 3-4 weeks, and public land users should follow all posted notices and not enter the closure area starting on July 8. For additional information contact the Little Snake Field Office Public Lands Information Center 970-826-5000 or email at [email protected]
