BLM Begins Temporary Trail Closures at Campbell Tract During Fuel Treatment Work
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Alaska's Anchorage Field Office will temporarily close short segments of the Speedway, Viewpoint, and Moose Meadow trails this week on the Campbell Tract Special Recreation Management Area from to protect public safety while fuel treatment work is underway. The temporary closures last through July 25 and are necessary to allow crews to safely complete vegetation management activities – clearing fuel breaks – to reduce wildfire risk within Campbell Tract.
These fuel breaks were created over 20 years ago through a cooperative effort between the BLM and the Municipality of Anchorage, as well as other partners, to help protect Campbell Tract.
Visitors should obey all posted closure signs and encouraged to use alternate routes during the project. Trail access outside the affected segments will remain open where it is safe to do so.
The BLM appreciates the public's patience and cooperation while this important work is completed. These fuel reduction efforts help protect nearby communities, recreation opportunities, and natural resources by reducing hazardous vegetation and improving the area's resilience to wildfire.
