CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management, Stillwater Field Office, has approved a short-term right-of-way (ROW) to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to begin geotechnical investigation activities on public lands between Middlegate and Gabbs, in Churchill and Mineral Counties, Nevada.

The geotechnical investigation would be conducted in support of the proposed realignment of State Route 361 (SR 361), which is required due to the expansion of the Naval Air Station, Fallon Range Training Complex Modernization efforts. The Navy bombing range expansion received federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) clearance in March 2020 and was mandated by Congress as part of the Fiscal Year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act. Temporary boring activities are required to finalize the design and routing of the realignment.
