ST. GEORGE, UT — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arizona Strip District is rescinding the fire area closure near Vermilion Cliffs National Monument due to decreased fire threat and activity related to the White Sage Fire.

The rescission of the road closures includes north of FR 22 (from USFS boundary to Hwy. 89A), south of Hwy. 89A from the FR22/Hwy. 89A junction east to the power transmission line, south of the power transmission line, where it goes northeast after crossing Hwy. 89A, to the Utah/Arizona state line,

south of the state line from the transmission line to BLM Road 1065 (House Rock Valley), BLM Road 1065 (House Rock Valley), and lands west of Road 1065, from Stateline south to U.S. Highway 89A.

The closure allowed firefighters and resources safe and unimpeded access to conduct fire suppression efforts as well as for fire fighter and public safety. The White Sage Fire is at 83 percent containment and 58,985-acres. Fire managers are asking for the public's help in being mindful of fire resources that are continuing suppression and repair efforts along the fire perimeter and roadways. Please travel safely in the vicinity of the fire.

"We'd like to thank all initial attack resources, Color Country Interagency Fire’s Type 3 Incident Managment Team, Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team 6, Coconino and Kane County Emergency Management Services, BLM Law Enforcement, local and regional fire and law enforcement departments, and many others for their hard work and diligence in helping to manage unsafe conditions to ensure the health and safety of our visitors. We're happy we can once again make these roads accessible to the public so visitors may continue to enjoy recreation access to their public lands,” said Arizona Strip Field Manager Lorraine Christian
