BLM Approves O&G Lease Sale, up to Seven O&G Wells, Post Fire ES&R, and Three SRPs in Utah

The Bureau of Land Management Salt Lake Field Office has completed two determinations of NEPA adequacy (DNA) and decision records to authorizes post fire emergency stabilization and rehabilitation actions following the Hastings and Iron fires. The Hastings fire ignited on June 20, 2026, and was contained on June 26, 2026. The fire was human caused and started on public lands administered by the BLM SLFO and burned 26,423 acres of BLM administered lands. The decision allows for aerial herbicide, seeding, and replacement of fencing to occur. The Iron fire ignited on June 20, 2026, and was contained on July 3, 2026. The fire was human caused and started on public lands administered by the BLM SLFO and burned 27,734 acres of BLM administered lands. The decision allows for aerial herbicide, chaining, aerial seeding, planting of pinyon pines, development of erosion control structures, and replacement of fencing to occur. The Bureau of Land Management Monticello Field Office has issued a determination of NEPA adequacy and decision record that authorizes three special recreation permits for guided hunting in the San Juan Wildlife Management Unit in the Monticello Field Office. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Vernal Field Office has issued an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Scottie Well Pad: DOI-BLM-UT-G010-2026-0143-EA. The Responsible Official signed a decision record approving five Applications for Permit to Drill authorizing Anschutz Exploration Corporation (the applicant) to horizontally drill up to five natural gas wells from the Scottie Fed 1122 Well Pad and issuing a right-of-way. The EA also analyzed effects of constructing the pad with associated infrastructure (an access road and pipelines). The project location is on BLM-administered lands approximately 45 linear miles south of Vernal in Section 33 of Township 11 South, Range 22 East, S.L.B.&M., Uintah County, Utah. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Vernal Field Office has issued an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Deep Creek 19 Pad Oil Wells: DOI-BLM-UT-G010-2026-0198-EA. The Responsible Official signed a decision record approving two Applications for Permit to Drill authorizing Uinta Wax Resources (the applicant) to directionally drill oil wells from the Deep Creek 19 Well Pad on private surface to produce from an existing Indian Trust mineral lease. The project location is on split-estate lands approximately 16.6 linear miles southeast of Roosevelt in Section 19 of Township 3 South, Range 2 East, S.L.B.&M., Uintah County, Utah. The BLM decision only authorizes wells that will produce from minerals under its jurisdiction.
