BLM approves North Complex wild horse gather plan
CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has approved the North Complex Wild Horse Gather Plan for how the agency will gather excess wild horses within the North Complex, which includes the Flanigan, Dogskin Mountains, and Granite Peak Herd Management Areas.
The North Complex consists of 27,671 acres, as well as a larger area around it, encompassing approximately 314,145 acres in Washoe County, about 30 miles North of Carson City.
BLM estimates the current population to be 369 wild horses as of March 1st, 2026. BLM proposes to gather and remove excess wild horses to achieve the established appropriate management level of wild horses, which is 101-157 wild horses.
BLM’s priority is to conduct a safe, efficient, and successful horse gather operation while ensuring humane care and treatment of all animals gathered.
