BLM Approves Nevada Gold and Silver Mine to Support American Mineral Production
ELKO, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management has approved the South Railroad Mine Project in Elko County, paving the way for Gold Standard Ventures (US) Inc. to launch a new gold and silver mine about 25 miles southwest of Elko. Over the next 16 years, the company will construct and operate, reclaim and close the mine, creating local jobs and strengthening domestic access to precious metals.
The project boundary includes about 4,624 acres of BLM-managed public land and about 3,924 private acres with planned temporary surface disturbance of 1,267 acres and permanent surface disturbance of 503 acres. Construction is expected to employ up to 600 people, and operations would employ 300 full-time employees for the life of the mine.
This project was directed by the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council to be a covered FAST-41 project in the interest of government transparency and in response to the Trump administration’s efforts to increase American mineral production in order to reduce U.S. reliance on foreign minerals, enhance national security, and create jobs.
Mining projects support domestic production of valuable minerals, while contributing to the nation’s economy and security. This project aligns with Executive Order 14241, Immediate Measures To Increase American Mineral Production, which states, “The United States possesses vast mineral resources that can create jobs, fuel prosperity, and significantly reduce our reliance on foreign nations…It is imperative for our national security that the United States take immediate action to facilitate domestic mineral production to the maximum possible extent.”
