BLM approves Lazy 5 transmission line
CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management approved the Lazy 5 transmission line project in the northern part of the Reno-Sparks metropolitan area in Washoe County. The project is intended to prevent outage risks in the Spanish Springs area based on NV Energy projections of demand growth of 4% annually.
Sierra Pacific Power Company, a subsidiary of NV Energy, may construct a 13-mile, 120 kilovolt overhead line on private, county, and public lands; the Lazy 5 substation in Spanish Spring on 17 acres of NV Energy property; the Lemmon Valley substation on five public acres; and remove about two miles of existing 120 kilovolt transmission line between the existing Sullivan switching station and Spanish Springs substation.
Additional information, including a map of the proposed project areas, is available at the BLM National NEPA Register.
