BLM announces additional opportunity for public input on Spring Creek Mine coal leasing

BILLINGS, Mont. — The Bureau of Land Management Montana/Dakotas State Office will hold a second public hearing to gather input on the Fair Market Value and Maximum Economic Recovery related to proposed coal lease applications at the Spring Creek Mine in Big Horn County. 

The additional hearing is being scheduled to provide another opportunity for the public to participate. 

The proposed actions include: 

  • Lease Modification Application MTM 110693: 150 acres, approximately 6.9 million tons of minable federal coal. 

  • Lease-By-Application MTM 105485-01: 1,262 acres, approximately 170 million tons of minable federal coal, supporting continued operations at Spring Creek Mine through 2034. 

Together, the proposed tracts cover about 1,412 acres of federal and private surface.
