Event Description

The Bureau of Land Management will offer wild horses and burros for adoption or purchase through its Online Corral website April 6-13, 2026. Animals will be available to approved applicants first-come, first-served for $125; no bidding required.

Adopted and purchased animals can be picked up at a location identified on the animal profile. For this event, pick-up locations include Belle Fourche, South Dakota; Delta, Utah; Jamestown, North Dakota; Richardson, North Dakota; and Wheatland, Wyoming.

To participate in the online event, the public can visit the BLM’s Online Corral, create an account and submit an application for approval. To browse available animals, users can navigate to the Animals gallery, click the Adopt or Buy Now purchase method, then click Search. Available pick-up locations are listed on each animal profile.

Interested participants are encouraged to submit an application as early as possible to become approved in time adopt or purchase. Detailed requirements for adopters and purchasers are available on the BLM’s website.

The Online Corral is the BLM’s internet-based platform where prospective adopters and purchasers can browse photos, videos and details about available wild horses and burros, submit applications, and adopt or purchase an animal – all from the comfort of their home. Wild horses and burros offered through the Online Corral were gathered from overpopulated herds on public lands in the western United States to help maintain healthy animals and healthy rangelands. Most animals offered are untrained and unhandled.

The BLM manages and protects wild horses and burros across 25.6 million acres of public lands in 10 Western states. Since 1971, the BLM has placed more than 300,000 wild horses and burros into good homes. These efforts help ensure healthy animals and healthy rangelands for future generations.
