Salmon Lake Campground | Alaska

The Salmon Lake Campground is located on the shores of Salmon Lake, one of the northernmost spawning areas for Sockeye salmon in Alaska. Situated approximately 40 miles north of Nome, it is accessed by a one‑mile gravel road off the Nome–Kougarok Highway, with signage along the highway directing visitors to the campground.

This nine‑acre recreation site includes an unimproved boat launch and six campsites equipped with picnic tables.

Important Visitor Information (Temporary Changes)

Several services at Salmon Lake Campground are currently unavailable:

No Outhouse Facilities: The restroom building is closed. Visitors should plan ahead and prepare alternative solutions for sanitation needs.
No Garbage Collection: Trash receptacles are not being serviced. Visitors must pack out all waste to help protect the area and maintain cleanliness.
