Everyone is invited to help Bureau of Land Management Wyoming celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA), Friday, Oct. 21, at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper at 2:30 p.m.

BLM Wyoming State Director Mary Jo Rugwell will open the event followed by Con Trumbull, talking about BLM’s history and the impact FLPMA has had on public land management.

“Many people don’t know that BLM manages one out of every 10 acres in the United States and 30 percent of the nation’s mineral estate. We want to use this event to highlight the outstanding work our employees accomplish every day,” said Rugwell.

FLPMA became effective 40 years ago, on Oct. 21, 1976. It has served as BLM’s guiding law since that time.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land located primarily in 12 western states, including Alaska, on behalf of the American people. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. Our mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
