ALBUQUERQUE, NM – On September 18, 2023, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will announce in the Federal Register the beginning of a 90-day public comment period and an opportunity to request a public meeting for the Davenport Electronic Site Withdrawal Extension Application.

In 2004, established by Public Land Order No. 7593, 80 acres of National Forest System lands known as the “Davenport Electronic Site” in Catron County, N.M., were withdrawn from location and entry under the United States mining laws to protect the area where the electronic facilities are located, subject to valid existing rights.  Because the withdrawal expires January 27, 2024, the U.S. Forest Service submitted to the Department of the Interior an application for extension of the withdrawal for an additional 20-year term.

The BLM invites the public to comment on the withdrawal extension application and/or request a public meeting to learn more about the withdrawal process.  Submit comments and/or requests for a public meeting by December 17, 2023 to:

Cibola Supervisor’s Office
Attn:  Richard Wilhelm
