Volunteers sought to improve two BLM recreation areas near Helena as part of nationwide National Public Lands Day celebrations
BUTTE, Mont. – The Bureau of Land Management is seeking volunteers to help at two National Public Lands Day events during the last week of September. The events will improve local special places while celebrating public lands. The first event will be held at the Two Camps Pavilion/ Devil's Elbow on Friday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers will help scrape, sand, and repaint the wood and metal surfaces at the Two Camps Pavilion. Volunteers can also pick up trash along the roadway between Devil’s Elbow and Clark’s Bay.
Devil’s Elbow is located at 5965 York Road. Helena, Mont.
A second event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on BLM lands in the North Hills. Volunteers will help pick up trash and will build Jack leg fence to prevent further resource damaged on closed routes in the area. North Hills Access is accessed by traveling north off of Snowdrift Road onto the North Hills Access Road. Volunteers should meet at coordinates, 46.74942, -111.96067. This is the first wide pull out once arriving on BLM land.
The BLM will provide needed safety equipment and tools, such as rubber and leather gloves, face masks, orange vests, trash pickers and garbage bags, at both events. Volunteers should bring a lunch, water and sunscreen. An ice-cold juiced beverage will be provided for thirsty volunteers.
