BLM to begin road construction, recreation improvements at Ringing Rocks site
BUTTE, Mont. – The Bureau of Land Management’s Butte Field Office will begin a series of improvements this week to enhance safety and public access at the popular Ringing Rocks recreation site in Jefferson County, Montana, on July 21.
The project includes road upgrades, expanded parking, trail construction, and new signage, all designed to improve the visitor experience while protecting the area’s unique natural features.
The project improvements are expected to be completed within 60 days, by Sept. 19, 2025. A temporary public road closure of up to 30 days may occur during this period. Specific closure dates will be announced once confirmed.
The upgrades aim to improve safety, reduce user conflicts, minimize long-term environmental impacts, reduce annual maintenance needs, and provide a designated trail option for hikers while preserving the site’s backcountry character.
The project area lies within the Pipestone Special Recreation Management Area and the Ringing Rocks Area of Critical Environmental Concern.
