Plant Conservation Program Mission:  The BLM Wyoming Plant Conservation Program (PCP) strives to protect and sustain native plant communities and the ecosystems in which they are found, and to prevent plant species from becoming rare and threatened with extinction. We work to minimize short- and long-term loss of biological resources on lands that may be subject to development for energy, minerals and recreation, and to facilitate recovery of disturbed lands.

The 2013 Seeds of Success (SOS) season was very successful thanks to our key partners and great interns. Nine collection teams had challenges this year, including unusual weather patterns and hiring delays, but still made over 230 seed collections. The teams consist of interns, staff/mentors, university researchers and students, contractors, and volunteers. Many of the seeds collected this year will be used in Native Plant Materials Development research projects including evaluation of Greater Sage-Grouse habitat forbs for commercial production, assessment of genetic exchange between cultivars and local genotypes, and comparison of range-wide responses to climate change conditions. Seed will also be put into long-term storage for conservation as well as for use in restoration and reclamation seed trials. BLM Wyoming appreciates the collaboration of different stakeholders to help plan and establish these trials. Thank you to everyone who worked hard to make this a great year!
