BLM Casper Releases Three EAs for Converse and a small portion of Niobrara Counties:
Spearhead Ranch EA, Highland Loop Road EA, and East Converse EA

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Casper Field Office (CFO) announces the availability of three Environmental Assessments (EAs) for the proposed exploratory oil and gas development within Converse and a small portion of Niobrara Counties, Wyo.: Spearhead Ranch EA, Highland Loop Road EA, and East Converse EA.

The CFO has prepared these EAs in response to individual Notices of Staking (NOS) and Applications for Permit to Drill (APDs) from multiple operators in three areas within Converse County and a small portion in Niobrara County. The operators have submitted notices and applications to explore existing oil reserves and determine the potential for commercial oil/gas production from the geologic formations within the project areas.

The project proposals could involve drilling a combination of both horizontal and vertical wells within the project areas to explore and develop the federal mineral estate. As identified in the EAs the typical well pads would be designed for one to four wells to be drilled from each pad. The range of wells proposed and analyzed is identified by EA below:

The Spearhead Ranch EA has a range of 56 to 224 wells from the proposed 56 well pads.

The Highland Loop Road EA has a range of 37 to 148 wells from the proposed 37 well pads.

The East Converse EA has a range of 18 to 72 wells from the proposed 18 well pads.

The EAs have been prepared to analyze the impacts of the proposed exploration and alternatives. All three EAs are available for public review and comment by visiting the BLM website at

The public comment period runs from September 17, through October 17, 2012. Comments should be addressed to Assistant Field Manager Minerals and Lands, BLM Casper Field Office, 2987 Prospector Drive, Casper, WY, 82609.
