Volunteers Needed for National Public Lands Day Event

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office, in coordination with the U.S. Forest Service, is inviting volunteers to participate in an early National Public Lands Day (NPLD) event at the Warren Bridge Recreation Area on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Families and individuals are welcome. Activities will include wildlife friendly fence maintenance as well as construction and installation of bat houses. Educational opportunities and activities are also planned.

Volunteers are needed to make any NPLD event a success. Volunteer registration will begin at 9 a.m. at Warren Bridge Recreation Area Site #4. Drive 20 miles north of Pinedale, Wyo., on Highway 191, turn right 200 yards north of the Green River Bridge and follow the gravel road to Green River access site #4.

Volunteers are asked to wear proper work attire and bring safety glasses and gloves. However, gloves will be made available to those without them.

NPLD began in 1994 with 700 volunteers and three sites. Last year, more than 170,000 volunteers worked at over 2,067 sites and collected an estimated 500 tons of trash, removed an estimated 23,000 pounds of invasive plants, built and maintained an estimated 1,500 miles of trails, planted an estimated 100,000 trees, shrubs and other native plants and contributed an estimated $17 million to improve public lands across the country.

The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
