Billy Creek Area Firewood Sales Temporarily Halted for Safety Concerns

Firewood permits for the Billy Creek area in the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Buffalo Field Office, will be suspended for a two-week period beginning Thursday, Aug. 5, until Monday, Aug. 23. This temporary closure is due to fuels reduction work going on in the area for the Billy Creek Biomass Project. The BLM wants to ensure the safety of the public during the tree felling and harvesting activities.

Permits purchased before Aug. 23 will still be valid. Permits are $7.00 per cord. There is an additional $1.50 road maintenance fee per permit. Individuals must show up in person at the Buffalo Field Office, located at 1425 Fort St., Buffalo, WY 82834, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to purchase a permit.

Cutting will resume on Monday, August 23. All available areas and individual trees will be designated and marked by BLM prior to the sale. Firewood can be cut in these areas, and only those trees marked will be available for firewood use.
