Installation Ceremony Planned for BLM Wind River/Bighorn Basin District Manager; Landscape Stewardship Award Presented

New District Manager Eddie Bateson.
An installation ceremony for Eddie Bateson as district manager of the newly-formed Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wind River/Bighorn Basin District, will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Washakie County Fairgrounds Main Building. The public is invited to attend.

BLM Wyoming acting State Director Don Simpson will administer the Oath of Office. As district manager, Bateson will oversee the Cody, Lander, and Worland Field Offices. The BLM moved to this new organizational structure on Oct. 1 as part of a national effort to develop consistent management across the country. New district offices will provide coordination between several field offices.

This is not Eddie Bateson's first tour in the Bighorn Basin. He spent 15 years in the BLM Cody Field Office beginning in 1985, gaining considerable experience in natural resource management. Before returning to the Bighorn Basin, he worked for the BLM in Colorado, Montana, and New Mexico. “I have a great respect and appreciation for the Bighorn Basin community and look forward to fostering a collaborative approach to resource management,” Bateson said.

In addition to the installation ceremony, a special Landscape Stewardship Award will be presented by the BLM to the Kirby Creek Coordinated Resource Management Group for its commitment to the improvement of the Kirby Creek Watershed, located in Hot Springs County. The group is comprised of individuals, landowners, and state, federal and local agencies that work together and exemplify leadership, cooperation, and stewardship qualities.

The BLM is encouraging the public to come for the ceremony and meet new District Manager Eddie Bateson. For more information, please contact Sarah Beckwith, BLM Public Affairs Specialist, at 307-347-5207.
