Rock Springs BLM Seeks Comments on
Proposed Rubicon 3D Seismic Survey

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Rock Springs Field Office is seeking comments on a proposed 3D seismic survey.

Devon Energy Production Company LP has announced plans to conduct geophysical exploration operations on 42 square miles of public lands in the Sugarloaf Special Management Area and Currant Creek Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC) south of Rock Springs, Wyo. The proposed seismic project area is located approximately 40 miles south of I-80 on U.S. Highway 191 near Little Mountain. Geophysical exploration helps determine the potential for oil and gas resources in underlying geologic formations.

The project will be conducted using heli-portable drilling and recording devices to minimize impact to the project area. Project vehicles will be limited to existing two tracks, improved roads and pre-approved routes to minimize disturbance. No vibroseis vehicles will be used.

The scoping notice and plan of action can be found at www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/rsfodocs/Rubicon3d.html.  Comments must be submitted by the close of business, June 10, 2008. Comments should be mailed to Jeromy Caldwell, Rock Springs Field Office, 280 Highway 191 North, Rock Springs, Wyo. 82901, or email rock_springs_wymail@blm.gov. Please add "Rubicon 3D Seismic Survey" in the subject line.
