Lander BLM Extends Green Mountain Common Allotment
Environmental Assessment (EA) Public Comment Period

The Lander Field Office is extending the public comment period on the environmental assessment (EA) for the Green Mountain Common Allotment (GMCA). The GMCA is one of the largest unfenced common allotments in the state of Wyoming, totaling 522,000 acres. Most of the land within the allotment is public land: 86 percent is public, 9 percent is state-owned and 5 percent is privately-owned.

Bob Ross, Lander Field Manager, said “The state of Wyoming and several of the permittees have asked for additional time to review the EA. The Green Mountain Common Allotment is a very large area affected by many complex factors. We want to ensure that we give the public adequate time to understand and comment on the alternatives.”

The EA is available by visiting the BLM website at: www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/lfodocs/greenmtn_common.html.

For those without internet access, a copy of the EA may be obtained by contacting the Lander Field Office at (307) 332-8400.

Comments on the EA will now be accepted until June 27, 2008. Comments may be submitted by mail to John Likins, Rangeland Management Specialist; Lander Field Office; P.O. Box 589; Lander, WY, 82520. Comments may be submitted by facsimile to (307) 332-8444, or by e-mail at lander_wymail@blm.gov.

A copy of the EA is also available for public review at either the Lander Field Office or the Wyoming BLM State Office in Cheyenne, Wyo.
