BLM Schedules Wild Horse Hearing

The Wyoming Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will hold its annual statewide hearing on helicopter and motor vehicle use on the use of helicopters and motor vehicles in wild horse management operations.

The hearing is set for 6:30 p.m., Aug. 1, in the Rock Springs BLM Field Office, located at 280 Highway 191 North.

"This public hearing is designed to obtain information and your views, comments and suggestions about the BLM's use of helicopters and motorized vehicles in the management of wild horses during the period of August 2007 through July 2008," said Jay D’Ewart, wild horse management specialist with the Rock Springs BLM.

Wild horse management includes wild horse removals, aerial census, and population distribution flights of wild horse herd management areas. Semi-trucks and trailers and pickup trucks will also be used to transport wild horses in our management actions.

Comments made during the formal public hearing will be recorded and summaries will be available upon request.

BLM plans to use helicopters to help gather wild, free-roaming horses from the public lands in the Rawlins, Lander, and Rock Springs Field office jurisdictions in 2007 and 2008.
