Casper BLM Releases Draft Resource Management Plan for Comment:
Public Meetings Scheduled in August

On July 21, 2006, the Wyoming Bureau of Land Management (BLM) released the draft Resource Management Plan and (RMP) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Casper Field Office. This document was prepared in cooperation with the Environmental Protection Agency, National Park Service, State of Wyoming, county governments, and conservation districts located in the planning area.

The Casper planning area is located in east-central Wyoming and includes approximately 1.4 million acres of public land surface and 4.7 million acres of federal mineral estate in most of Natrona County, and all of Converse, Goshen, and Platte Counties. Public land in the southwestern corner of Natrona County is administered by BLM’s Lander Field Office.

The draft RMP/EIS describes and analyzes the impacts of five alternatives for the future management of public lands and resources administered by the BLM. As required by BLM’s planning guidance, the agency Preferred Alternative is presented in the draft RMP/EIS for comparison with the other alternatives. While it is called the preferred alternative, selection of the final plan will be made only after consideration of comments received on the draft RMP/EIS.

BLM is hosting a series of open houses and public hearings to provide additional opportunities to submit comments and seek additional information on the draft RMP/EIS. All open houses will run from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m., with public hearings beginning at 6 p.m. Meetings will be held at:
