October 28, 2009 - The BLM announces the 2009 winners of the Reclamation and Sustainable Mineral Development Awards. The inaugural Fix A Shaft Today! (FAST!) program award was presented to Nevada Operating Engineers Union Joint Apprenticeship Committee for Northern Nevada and the California Department of Conservation Abandoned Mine Lands Unit. April 21, 2008 - The BLM and Partners Recognized by Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne for two Cooperative Conservation Abandoned Mine Lands Projects in Colorado. January 20, 2008 PHOENIX 19-year-old man is dead after falling into an abandoned mine shaft.It happened just north of the Valley around midnight near 24th Street and Joy Ranch Road. According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, a group riding quads in the area ran into trouble when a 19-year old fell into a 35-foot shaft. His death marks the second deadly accident at an abandoned mine shaft in Arizona in the past year. Source: www.azfamily.com/news
