Cottonwood Hills Trail

Access:  Cottonwood Trailhead—Take I-15 Exit 16 to Hurricane City (SR 9). Take the exit ramp south toward Hurricane and continue to the first traffic light in 0.8 miles. Turn left at the light onto 6300 West and continue for 2.0 miles as 6300 West turns into Old Highway 91. Just past Winkle Distributing (on the left), turn left onto a gravel road between Winkle Distributing and the Rocky Mountain Power maintenance building. Continue through two freeway tunnels (height and width restricted to 12’ x 12’) to reach the trailhead.
Description: Very sandy conditions and almost a mile in the Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness make this trail unsuitable for bikers, but pleasant for equestrians.
Loop: For a 6.5 mile loop, take the Cottonwood Canyon Trail for 0.5 mile until it intersects the Prospector Trail. Turn left on Prospector and continue for 0.08 miles. Turn right onto Cottonwood Hills Trail and follow it to its end in 2.93 miles when it intersects the Spanish Wash Trail. Turn left (south) on Spanish Wash and continue until reaching the Prospector Trail again in 0.57 miles. Turn left on Prospector and continue for 1.98 miles. Turn right back onto Cottonwood Canyon Trail to return to the trailhead.
