Hunting in Wilderness & the Beaver Dam Wash NCA

It is October 20th, opening day of the Utah 2012 general-season deer hunt, and trucks and ATVs are scattered along Motoqua Road in Washington County. Intermingled among the vehicles are staff from the BLM St. George Field Office, with the intent of informing hunters about hunting within Wilderness and the Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Area

Hunting is allowed in the Beaver Dam Wash NCA as long as all motorized vehicles, including Off-Highway Vehicles, remain on designated roads. Hunting is also allowed in Wilderness, but the regulations are more stringent on motorized vehicles as they are not allowed to operate in these areas. For more information please review the Hunting in Wilderness factsheet and the Hunting in the Beaver Dam Wash NCA factsheet.

During the hunter outreach, SGFO staff came across a 15 year old young man with his first kill. His father was quick to tell us that his son had done all the work, from gutting and cleaning, to dragging it to the jeep where it resided on the bumper. The young man was also looking forward togetting the deer home, prepping and packaging it to enjoy all winter long.
