An online launch permit is required year-round and available here to boat all sections of the Mainstem downstream of Spray. Permits to boat upstream of Spray are encouraged and available here and at launch points. The number of launch permits issued in 2018 will not be limited, so it is not necessary to obtain your permit until close to your launch date. Once issued, don't forget to confirm your permit between 10 and 30 days prior to your trip. Permit fees are non-refundable. Permit Release Schedule

Notice: For 2016, all river segments and launch dates are unlimited. An on-line launch permit is still required.

2017 Permit release dates have not yet been scheduled. Advance notice about 2017 release dates will be sent by email to those who have created a customer account. To create a customer account, select "Create Account" from the green bar above. Once all launch permits for a specific date are issued, launch permits often become available closer to the trip date when:

  1. A trip leader cancels a permit
  2. BLM cancels a permit that was obtained by fraudulent means
  3. A permit is automatically re-deposited if not confirmed by the confirmation deadline; 10 days prior to the trip date

All permits are issued on-line as they become available. There is no lottery, no waiting list, and no permits are issued by phone.
