John Day River

An online launch permit is required year-round and available here to boat all sections of the Mainstem downstream of Spray. Permits to boat upstream of Spray are encouraged and available here and at launch points. The number of launch permits issued in 2017 will not be limited, so it is not necessary to obtain your permit until close to your launch date. Once issued, don't forget to confirm your permit between 10 and 30 days prior to your trip. Permit fees are non-refundable.

Confirmation Requirement

The Trip Leader is required to confirm their reservation on-line between 30 and 10 days prior to the launch date. If not confirmed 10 days prior to the launch date, the reservation will automatically cancel and the launch space will be available for reservation by another boater. We will send the Trip Leader two confirmation reminders via email; one on the first day the reservation is eligible for confirmation, and another 7 days prior to the end of the confirmation period. The email notices will contain a link to the permit confirmation page. After the permit is confirmed, it may be printed or saved to be printed later.

Last minute reservations: If a permit is reserved less than 10 days prior to the launch date, the Trip Leader is required to confirm their reservation on-line between 10 and 1 days prior to the launch date. If not confirmed 1 day prior to the launch date, the reservation will automatically cancel and the launch space will be available for reservation by another boater. Permits reserved on the day of the trip may be confirmed and printed immediately.
