The Spokane Veteran Crew is part of a nationwide program to bring military veterans into civilian service for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The mission of the program is to engage, transition, and connect military veterans with meaningful natural resource, fuels and wildland fire suppression training and experience to build a foundation for future employment in fire and other natural resource career fields.
The veteran crew is a ten person suppression team responsible for initial attack on BLM lands in Washington. The crew also supports local initial attack responses for the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, the US Forest Service, the US Fish and Wildlife Service and other agencies.
The ten person team can be combined with other government agencies and Team Rubicon, into a 20 person, Type 2 crew for extended attack support. Crew members regularly cross train with the Spokane District Engine and Fuels teams and support BLM Helicopter teams in Oregon.
