Needs Analysis
We covered that this was needed in before the March 14th date as that is when we need it back to the
training center. Some were given to Jim to get to Karen.
2008 Training Classes
How are we looking?
Sounding like the S-260/261 for the Hood is off. If they
have it will be for the forest.
S-234 at
S-211 No nominations at this time need to see if there
is really a need for this class?
Roberta will be looking at getting the WEB all updated.
S-300 need to get the nominations in.
Neighboring Classes
IQCS
How do we enter folks for a class if they do not meet
prerequisites?
June 23-27, 2008 Sweet Home -
$170/student.
Level 2 classes S-131, S-230, S-231 and possibly
FI-110, L-280 or S-234. They are looking for instructors at this time. Planning on a short instructor training around June 19th.
Checking for prerequisites
This was a discussion item. It sounds like it is also an
issue on the national level. If an individual takes a class that they do NOT
meet the prerequisites for but can use the information and are accepted
into the class (there are times that this may be appropriate) how do we
recognize their attendance?
The question came up on if the FMCG is a guide or
manual?
Monitoring of CC classes
Has anyone been
"monitoring" the local community colleges?
Roberta Has not been able to contact anyone in her area. They do not
return her calls.
Jeff will be monitoring the I-300 that Clackamas CC will be putting on for
them.
Rico Bob Young sad that
Linn-Benton CC and Portland CC are looking at getting MOU to put on fire
classes. I did some follow up on this one. It sounds like they have
submitted the MOU to
Refreshers
$1,000/class. This
will be the same one that is offered in the
Dates on web? Yes as Roberta gets them
Pack tests? They will be, if the information if
provided.
Dianas Comments
The question came up about some classes that did not
meet standards and some that were being offered that did not receive the proper
approval to put on: The ones that did not meet NWCG standards was a misprint on
the flyer and missed a weekend of classes. That has been corrected. ODF is
offering some aviation classes (S-371, S-372 and S-378) that were not
pre-approved Heather will check on these. They can be presented without
approval but NOT as NWCG certified classes.
What is Leadership and Team
Development? This is a class that was developed for the folks that do NOT go
out on the fireline (originally for the folks that
work in the Redmond Cache It is version of S-380 without the field exercises.
(Jim this is not true!!!! It is a totally independently developed class
and has nothing to do with S-380/L-380? They are working on possibly
getting it approved by the leadership team for non-fireline
personnel, but dont know when or if it will happen.)
Instructor Criteria. TWT
developed a process for qualifying instructors dont know how soon it will
happen for non current folks. How do we document that they met the criteria for
a lead instructor? It is recommended that they: 1. Keep
a copy of the agenda as proof of the units that they have taught in a class OR 2. Keep some type of
documentation that would show the lead instructor and coordinator of the class
and what units that were taught.
Crosswalk This is not a NWCG document but from the
National Fire Administration that they have
developed. At this time we are waiting for a Q&A sheet to explain how this
will work. Stand by for answers on this one. It does not seem to be as big of a
problem with ODF as it is with DNR
S-372 will be offered through the region this year
dont know if it will be at Redmond of Wenatchee. (Decision after the
call that this will be in Wenatchee.) Patty Jones will be lead on this one. Need to start getting nominations
in!
Mike Ellsworth and Mike Spencer are working on the 401
plan for the region. Do not know if this is just FS or FS and BLM???
Need I-Suite nominations in by March 3, 2008
Other Old business
This was covered in other conversation during meeting.
New business
Problems to report to Training officers meeting in Fall This was another thing that came up
was issues that need to be pushed up the line. If you have something come up
send Karen and Jim a note so that they can keep tabs on it and get it to the
proper folks attention.
Heather brought up that there was a group working on
structural training and how it would meet the NWCG (possibly Crosswalk) but
seemed to break up is this going to get back together? (Heather, can you help
out here?)
Key dates to remember
Need to keep in mind that nominations
will be due for the Dec. regional classes in September, Reminder of regional
classes and national classes will be Nov. 1.
If we would like to put on classes in the fall need to
be thinking of that around the September time as well.
Next meeting
October 16, 2008
We also discussed inviting some of the other fire
agencies from our area to the meeting. Some that came up were DPSST, NAFT, OSFM. There was some uncertainty on how best to invite them
something to think about.
