Maston Trail Use Area Access and Directions

Trailheads
Two trailheads are provided for the Maston Trail Use area:
Maston Trailhead
The main trailhead for the Maston Area is on the north side of Newcomb Road, approximately 3/4 mile east of Cline Falls Highway. The parking area has 24 vehicle spaces and 16 spaces for horse trailers. The area includes short gravel or paved walking paths, a restroom and picnic area.
Newcomb Road is only open to motor vehicle use for two miles east of Cline Falls Highway; access is closed to motorized use except for private property access where the road parallels the Deschutes River. A small river access parking area (Wildcat Canyon) for approximately 5 vehicles is located at the east end of Newcomb Road. Newcomb Road is closed to motor vehicle use past the Wildcat Canyon parking area.
Visitors to Maston share Newcomb Road with private landowners. Please slow down and drive at a reasonable speed on this gravel road.
Juniper Trailhead
The smaller Juniper Trailhead is located at Cline Falls Highway at the north end of the Maston area. This trailhead is for single vehicles only (trailers should be parked at Maston Trailhead). Public motor vehicle travel past the Juniper Trailhead on the Red Cinder Road is not allowed, except for private property access.

River Access
Public access to the Deschutes River is available on the east side of the river at two locations and three locations on the west side of the river canyon. These access points are as follows.
Jaguar Road Trailhead (East Side of Deschutes River)
Lat: 44.224072°, Lon: -121.250981°
This pedestrian only trail is seasonally closed (2/ 1 - 8/ 31) to all uses to protect nesting raptors. Alternate route in the area during this period: Riverview Trailhead.

This site offers pedestrian only access to several of old routes and roads on the public land above the river canyon, and one well defined, but steep route down to the river. This route will be relocated to a more stable and safe trail alignment in the future.

Lat: 44.212092°, Lon: -121.263683°
This pedestrian only river access is open year round. There are many existing routes and no clearly defined route down into the canyon. Visitors should be careful hiking in this rugged, rocky area.
No designated parking currently exists at the NW corner of the SW Quarry/SW 77th Street Intersection, although there is space for vehicles to pull off on the west side of 77th Street/McVey Avenue approximately 0.1 mile north of this intersection. A small gravel parking area is planned for this site. There is no vehicle access allowed into the CBRA at this point.
Wildcat Canyon Trailhead Site (West Side of Deschutes River)
Lat: 44.210800°, Lon: -121.276651°
The pedestrian only trail into the canyon is open year round. The primitive and steep canyon access trail begins near the first powerline crossing of the river.
A five vehicle parking area is located on the north side of Newcomb Road and provides access to the easy trails that lead to the steep canyon trail. Motor vehicle use north beyond the Wildcat Canyon parking area is not allowed.
Maston Trailhead Site (West Side of Deschutes River)
Lat: 44.210864°, Lon: -121.302033°
This trail is open year round for hiking, mountain biking and equestrian use. A seasonal wildlife closure is in place for part of this area every year from Feb. 1 - August 31.

Juniper Trailhead (West Side of Deschutes River)
Lat: 44.244434°, Lon: -121.282137°
