Elko District BLM Hosts Communications Forum

ELKO, Nev.—The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Elko District Office is hosting an open communications forum March 14 to provide an opportunity for the public to learn more about projects being undertaken by the Elko District as well as a forum to provide input to the BLM.

The main topic for this forum will be Noble Energy, Inc. Oil & Gas Exploration proposals. Noble Energy, Inc. will present on exploration and drilling activities and BLM specialists will present regulatory information on Oil & Gas exploration as well as be available for discussion.

After topic presentations, there will be an opportunity for public speaking. Comments can be made regarding any topic and will be recorded for future BLM use. Written comments will be accepted as well.

This is the first of planned quarterly forums to maintain an open dialogue between BLM and the many users of America’s public lands.

The forum is open to the public and will be at the Red Lion Hotel & Casino in the Humboldt Room located at 2065 Idaho St., Elko. The forum begins at 6 p.m. and is expected to last approximately two hours. Public speakers will need to register either at the event or prior to by email at Requests will need to include requestor’s name, address and phone number along with the topic of their comment.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. In Fiscal Year 2015, the BLM generated $4.1 billion in receipts from activities occurring on public lands.
